Living Things: Plants

What do plants need to survive and grow?
Today we started an investigation into that very question.
We are planning on using the new planter boxes which were built by our maintenance team just outside our windows.

We bought some seeds and gathered some soil.

We decided it would be best to start our garden in egg cartons. That way we can move them indoors to protect them from the birds, rabbits and other wildlife that visit.

Today we planted beans, poppies and sunflowers. Soon, we will plant some marigolds, silverbeet and parsley as well.

Over the next few days we will investigate what our seeds need to germinate and how we need to care for them once they start to grow.

We're very excited about our latest project and look forward to having our very own garden.

  2. Ellie came home very excited to tell me about the seeds. We began a discussion about sunflowers as I had found some growing in our yard so we planted them into a pot and will also grow them at home. :)
