What Kindergarten Homework Will Look Like Next Term

Today your child will come home with three items to do with Homework next term.

1. A note explaining what Homework will be like in Term 4 (we will be doing PIPs instead of weekly homework tasks).
2. An outline of the weekly news topics.
3. A booklet containing all of the Kindergarten sight words for the children to work through at their own pace.

A copy of the Homework note and the News Topics can be found under the 'Homework' tab.

Our Assembly Item

Yesterday I sent a note home about our Assembly item next term. My hope is to develop a bank of costume ideas so that we are ready for our performance. If you have an idea or can help with any part of the costumes please feel free to speak to me or comment below. I have a placed a copy of the note under the 'Information for Parents' tab.

What a process!!

A few weeks ago we started on what we thought would be a simple Art activity, making jellyfish. Instead of using the traditional paper bowl, we thought it might be a little more exciting to make the bell using paper mache. The children had mixed emotions about doing this. Many did not like the feeling of the glue on their hands.

Our next job was to paint the bell, but it needed two coats!

Finally we glued our tentacles. Some children chose cellophane, some used crepe paper and others used a combination of both.

The end result has made the process worthwhile. We're pretty pleased with our jellyfish!

Their future's so bright they've gotta wear shades!!

Today we said goodbye to a group of people we have come to love.

Kristine, Kate, Joshua and Prosper are our Year 12 buddies. They have visited a number of times throughout the year and have left the room smiling after each visit. More importantly, we have prayed for our friends every day since we met them. On Friday our Year 12 students graduate, so today we sang and prayed with them for the last time.  We gave them a few little reminders of the impact they have made on their little Kindy buddies, who have come to love them.

We wish all of our Year 12 students well as they prepare to sit the HSC. May they achieve their goals and more!

Searching for Bossy e

This morning we embarked on our first of many searches for 'Bossy e'.
We talked about vowel sounds and names, remembering that when a word has a 'bossy e' on the end the 'e' says nothing but it makes the vowel say it's name.

We put on our special searching glasses....

and practised with some words on the whiteboard. Then it was time to search for words around the room. Some words were 'Bossy e' words and some were not.

I wonder what words we will find the next time we search!

Thank you Service

Yesterday afternoon we had the opportunity to come together to formally thank Mr Gray for his 10 Years of faithful and loyal service.
Mr Gray is a servant-hearted man who has shown vision and passion for Christian education. He has lead our College with integrity to become the innovative, beautiful and nurturing place that it is today.

We had some wonderful displays of talent.

And some moving speeches.

Ending with the cutting and sharing of a cake.

I am so thankful for the opportunity to have worked with such a good man who taught us to set our goals high and work towards them.

I will miss having Nathan Gray as principal of MACC, but I know that God has this place firmly in His hands and I am looking forward to what the future brings. I wish him God's blessings and grace as he starts the next chapter of his own journey.

Living Things: Plants

What do plants need to survive and grow?
Today we started an investigation into that very question.
We are planning on using the new planter boxes which were built by our maintenance team just outside our windows.

We bought some seeds and gathered some soil.

We decided it would be best to start our garden in egg cartons. That way we can move them indoors to protect them from the birds, rabbits and other wildlife that visit.

Today we planted beans, poppies and sunflowers. Soon, we will plant some marigolds, silverbeet and parsley as well.

Over the next few days we will investigate what our seeds need to germinate and how we need to care for them once they start to grow.

We're very excited about our latest project and look forward to having our very own garden.

Book Week

We have been super excited about Book Week! We read quite a few of the award winning books and talked about what made them "good" books. I particularly enjoyed a book called 'Mr Huff' by Anna Walker. In this book the author very cleverly portrays emotions and how to overcome negative feelings.

Well, Book Week culminated in today, our Book Fair and Parade. The children were super excited to be wearing their costumes all day and when the final touches were added, they all looked amazing!

A visit from Clifford added to our excitement!

Then it was finally our turn to parade. For some children it felt like an eternity.

Congratulations on a super effort KC!
