Home Reading and Library Borrowing Has Ended

Unfortunately our wonderful year is coming towards an end. To allow us to do a stock take of home readers and library books, we have not been sending new books home this week. If you still have a home reader or library book please send it with your child tomorrow.
Thank you!

Day 6 of PIP Presentations - Family Trees

This morning Adrian and Nash shared their PIPs. Both of them made a family tree!

Adrian's family tree is very detailed. It includes grandparents aunties, uncles and cousins. The colours show the different groups. He did a terrific job of talking us through it all.

Nash also made a family tree.

He talked to us about how he cut his tree from timber using a jigsaw. He had to wear goggles and ear muffs.

He talked about his grandparents and the people in his family.

Thank you boys for sharing your family trees with us!

Day 5 of PIP Presentations - Hermit Crabs!

Yesterday Cadence shared his PIP on hermit crabs. I was super impressed with how will he presented his information. He definitely knew his stuff!!

As part of his presentation, he shared his hermit crabs with us. Many of us got to have a hold!

We waited for Sherman to come out of his shell.... he came out eventually but we had to be very quiet.

Thank you Cadence for sharing your PIP!

Congratulations on your Week 8 Awards KC

The children in KC are still working hard and learning together. I am so proud of them!
This morning we had our Week 8 Awards plus a couple from previous weeks that were missed.
Congratulations Josh, Caterina, Ellie, Nash and Jemma!

Day 3 of our PIP Presentations

Yesterday we had another exciting day of learning from one another. I've loved seeing the children share their interests in such creative ways.

Olivia shared about her love of clothing design. She took us on her journey of cutting and sewing this skirt for her doll.

Darcy taught us about chihuahuas. She had her chihuahua, Poncho, to help her!

Benita told us about her dogs, Sui Bay and Pizza. She explained how to care for them.

Thank you for sharing your PIPs girls! We loved them!

Sunflowers

They're taller than most of the children! Let's hope they flower soon

Day 2 of PIP Presentations

Today we had the opportunity to learn from one anther once again.

Ellie taught us about the life cycle of a chicken through a beautifully presented picture book.

Sophie gave us some interesting facts about dolphins.....I learnt something new myself!

Karli spoke very beautifully about her family!

Exploding Coke!

What if we mix Coke (Diet) with lollies? Specifically, Mentos and Jelly Beans.

That was our "what if?" question for today.
We had three bottles of Diet Coke and three types of lollies: Mint Mentos, Coloured Mentos and Allen's Jelly Beans. We asked the children to predict what type of reaction we would get when each of the lollies were dropped into the bottle of Diet Coke.

First we tried the mint Mentos. The children in Kindergarten were familiar with this one because they had seen it at our Science excursion.

As soon as the mentos fell into the Diet Coke the Coke gushed out of the bottle in something that looked like volcanic eruption!

Next, we tried the coloured mentos to see if we would get a similar reaction.

Finally we asked "What if we use jelly beans? Will the reaction be the same?"
Most of the children thought the reaction would not be the same because jelly beans are smaller than mentos.

The reaction was the same. The only difference was only a few of the jelly beans landed inside the Coke bottle due to their shape. Many of them were stuck in the tube.

The greatest reaction came from the mint Mentos. The jelly beans would have had a similar reaction if more fell into the Coke bottle.
The tiny gaps in the coating of the lollies allowed the gas in the Coke to form bubbles causing a chemical reaction.

First PIPs

Today our first set of children shared their PIPs.

Caterina shared what she has learnt about dolphins.

Jemma explained the life cycle of a butterfly.

Isabella taught us about unicorns.

Sophia did an outstanding job of reading her information about elves!

Well done girls! I hope you enjoyed working on your projects. You certainly did an outstanding job.

Reading a Map

On Friday, the children refined their map reading skills. Mrs Ballard gave each student a personalised map which lead to their very own treasure. The children had to read their map and navigate their way to their treasure. It was a fantastic way for them to refine such important skills!
