Measuring Mass

Over the last two weeks we have been learning about mass so we can find out how heavy or light things are. We have used balance scales and hefting to do this.
These children have been using the scales to measure the mass of two objects of similar size, for example, an apple and a ball.

Then they used stones or marbles to measure the items. They found that the Apple had the greatest mass.

These children hid an object in an ice cream container. Their partner had to guess the item by how heavy or light the ice cream container felt.

These children had the task of finding everyday items that felt lighter or heavier than their lunch box. They became human balance scales to do this. They had some very interesting findings.

What things can you measure at your house?
