In English, our study of sounds and words has taken us into a study of vowels. We have identified the five vowel sounds and we are concentrating hard on noticing the way our lips stretch when we form each sound. We're also noticing the way we use our voice when we say each sound.
Vowels are important because they are in the middle of so many words. By being able to identify the vowel sound, we are equipped with the tools we need to become better readers and writers. Our next step will be to use our knowledge of vowels to learn about word families, that is, groups of words containing the same vowel sound.
If you ask your child about vowels, I wonder what they will say...
